About Us
Finding Laughter & Miracles Everyday
We are a program from the West Okanagan Learning Foundation & Farms (WOLFF) which is a registered non-profit society dedicated to supporting families by teaching children respect, responsibility and resilience, and by providing opportunities to learn about permaculture.

At Fun in the Sun Children's Programs, healthy and safe opportunities are provided daily in a fun and inviting environment so that children thrive and grow to the best of their abilities.

This interactive curriculum/program adapts to the needs and interests of each child/family.

Learning in fun ways is how we brighten up the lives of children, families and our community.
Our Story
About 100 years ago, around the 1920s, Captain James Cameron Dun-waters had a dream to use his property named Fintry to teach young children to be farmers and productive individuals. He wanted develop the area to grow crops and provide milk and dairy products to people all over the Okanagan. Learn more him in this link: https://www.fintry.ca/captain-james-cameron-dun-waters/

We believe passionately in supporting and continuing Captain James' dream and love seeing how his dream is possible. Since we also love how children are quick learners, amazing and magnificent, our team felt it was a wonderful time to develop classes and programs for the next generation.

Thus, we have math, language & science lessons taught by engaging & interactive activities based in agriculture/permaculture (gardening, sewing, woodworking), arts (drama, dance, guitar, piano, painting & sculpture, etc), and life skills (team work, baking, cooking, bicycle riding, running, swimming, etc).
We see clearly that early childhood gives back to the community years later. Young children who get positive attention will be more likely to have jobs and own their own homes 20 or 30 years later. Elaine Wong, Mr. B. Peron, B & J. Yamka, and a team of excellent parents and early childhood educators drafted up our curriculum developed from years of experience, observations, discoveries and research (longitudinal studies) about human health and development from the NYaeyc (https://nyaeyc.org/), Italian, Japanese, Chinese researchers, Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, John Bowbly, the Doman Institute, Dr. David Sinclair, Dr. Daniel Amen and many other dedicated people.

Our key teacher, Grace-Joy Demmon, implements the program with parents and volunteers. She has taught hundreds of children with diverse backgrounds, abilities and personalities. With over 14 years of experience in teaching, she easily brings out creativity and excitement in people of all ages.

Her university studies brought her to observe, examine and work in childcare programs in China, Japan, Canada and the United States. It was a blessing have Jean Barton, Margaret Lanzinger, and H. Ross, as her university instructors since they were incredible early childhood educators who understood children so well that they could teach little ones how to be so kind and respectful with love and laughter.
Our other key teacher who is taking over the management role is Angela Miller. Angela has been working with children in the school system since 2006 as a Certified Educational Assistant. Since 2019 she has taught Health and Physical Education for the Okanagan Indian Band. She joins us this year with a ton of knowledge and experience as well as a passion to make every child feel loved and accepted.
The CoVid-19 pandemic changed the world as we once knew it to be and we are now stepping and dancing forward into a new era. We teach children communication, self regulation, survival skills and skills in a variety of areas. In summary, we teach children on how to be healthy people who are strong in body, mind and soul for a better future.
